Mazrui Energy Accelerates Operational Excellence Transformation Across the Group

Abu Dhabi, UAE – December 2025

Mazrui Energy proudly announces significant progress in its Operational Excellence (OpEx) Transformation Program, a strategic initiative launched in March 2025 under the leadership and sponsorship of Danny Fournel, Director – Mazrui Energy. The program was introduced to institutionalize continuous improvement, enhance technical capability, and deliver measurable operational and financial value across all business units.

Driving Excellence Through Leadership
Central to this transformation is Varghese Abraham, Operational Excellence Lead, whose role has been instrumental in turning vision into reality. Varghese has not only guided the program but has personally facilitated all OpEx training sessions and actively participated in every project charter, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and flawless execution. His hands-on leadership has accelerated the adoption of Lean Six Sigma principles across the organization, earning positive feedback and recognition from teams and leaders throughout the Group. This commitment has strengthened Mazrui Energy’s operational discipline and positioned the company as a benchmark for continuous improvement.

Building Enterprise-Wide Capability
A cornerstone of the OpEx strategy is the systematic development of skills and certifications across the workforce, ensuring improvement expertise at scale:

  • 19 Operational Excellence Champions Certified
These management-level leaders are now driving strategic improvement initiatives and coaching teams across the Group.
  • 150+ Lean Six Sigma White Belts Certified
Providing foundational problem-solving and waste-reduction skills to colleagues across Mazrui Energy, enabling broad-based participation in improvement activities.
  • 40+ Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belts Trained
Establishing a strong pipeline of project leaders equipped to execute structured, data-driven improvement projects.

In total, over 200 employees have been formally trained, marking a significant step toward building a self-sustaining continuous improvement culture.

Quantifiable Business Impact

Since the program’s launch:

  • 20+ cross-functional improvement projects initiated across Drilling, Manufacturing, Services, HSE, Finance, Supply Chain, and Operations.
  • AED 1 million+ in validated cost savings identified to date, with additional projects under financial review.
  • Significant reductions achieved in lead time, operational waste, inventory exposure, and rework levels across key operational areas.

These outcomes represent the early phase of a multi-year value creation roadmap aimed at strengthening competitiveness and operational resilience.

Operational Excellence on the Shop Floor: 5S Deployment

As part of the program’s foundational initiatives:

  • 3 major plants and warehouses have formally deployed the 5S Workplace Organization Program (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain).

Initial results include:

  • Improved workplace safety and hazard reduction
  • Enhanced material flow and logistics efficiency
  • Higher productivity and stronger visual management discipline

This marks Phase 1 of a structured roll-out plan that will extend across Mazrui Energy facilities in 2026.

Shaping a High-Performance Culture

The OpEx Transformation is reinforcing a unified culture centered on:

  • Operational efficiency
  • Employee empowerment
  • Data-driven decision making
  • Sustained performance improvement

With strong executive sponsorship, high employee engagement, and a clearly defined roadmap, Mazrui Energy is positioning itself as a regional benchmark for operational discipline and continuous improvement excellence.
